Whether you drive a lot or a little, as you age, you have to face the fact that there are a few issues that take on more relevance when it comes to cars.

Here are some of the factors that older drivers might want to consider when shopping for a car, according to Kelley Blue Book’s Russ Heaps:

  • Accessibility: A vehicle that’s easy to get in and out of.
  • Visibility: You want to see and be seen. A car that sits higher and has ample windows and good headlights is a start.
  • Comfort: Consider a power adjustable seat, adjustable steering wheel, and heated and/or cooling seats.
  • Low maintenance costs and fuel economy: Value counts, especially for retirees.
  • Safety: All of the new cars on KBB’s list of best cars for seniors earned a Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
