Ask the Hammer Thanksgiving Edition
In this special Thanksgiving edition of Ask the Hammer, Jeffrey Levine of Buckingham Wealth Partners expresses his thanks, at least in the context of finance, to having access to a wide variety of accounts in which to save money, and Series I savings bonds.
Key Takeaways
- Take advantage of I Bonds currently offering 7%+ guaranteed federal returns, with annual purchase limits of $10,000 per person ($15,000 if funding through tax returns with paper bonds)
- Choose the right account type based on your tax situation: use tax-deferred accounts (traditional IRAs) when in a high tax bracket to reduce current taxes, and Roth IRAs when expecting lower income years to control future tax liability
- If you're able to ask advanced financial planning questions, recognize you're in a fortunate position and consider supporting local food banks and homeless shelters during the holiday season to share that advantage with others
