What Makes for a Fulfilling Life?
What makes for a happy life, a fulfilling life? A good life? According to the directors of the Harvard Study of Adult Development, the longest scientific study of happiness ever conducted, the answer to these questions may be closer than you realize.
Key Takeaways
- Prioritize building and maintaining warm, meaningful relationships as they have measurable impacts on lifespan and health outcomes comparable to physical fitness
- Regularly invest time in connecting with others—whether family, friends, or community groups—as social isolation can be as detrimental to longevity as neglecting physical health
- Evaluate your current social connections and identify one or two relationships to strengthen or new communities to join if you're experiencing isolation
